LCUSA Mission vs. Mission of Local Associations
Although the mission and vision statements of Ladies of Charity USA and Ladies of Charity Lake Travis, Inc. are similar, the major difference is that the national mission is to provide leadership to the local associations. Local missions provide opportunities and service to people in need.
An individual can directly join Ladies of Charity USA if they do not have a local association they can join through. We all are members of the International Association of Charities (AIC).
Why Become a Member:
– Membership in the AIC, founded by St. Vincent de Paul in 1617, presently has a network of over 200,000 women in fifty-four countries which is the oldest lay organization of women serving persons living in poverty in the world.
– Members are linked through Ladies of Charity USA, to 67 Associations with approximately 6800 Ladies of Charity in the United States.
– Becoming a member of Ladies of Charity Lake Travis, Inc. gives each member a deeper solidarity with the mission of Ladies of Charity International as well as our local Association.
– Fellowship with like-minded women.
Membership Requirements:
– A lay woman of Catholic or non-Catholic faith who supports the Ladies of Charity Lake Travis, Inc. mission and virtues.
– Complete a membership application and payment of annual membership dues. (Currently $25)
Membership Opportunities:
– New members are welcomed into Ladies of Charity Lake Travis, Inc. at the annual Solemn Reception of New Members.
– Members become more involved with our benevolence giving as well as opportunities to serve on several other committees within our Association.
– Members receive the Ladies of Charity Lake Travis, Inc. monthly newsletter.
– Members receive the Servicette newsletter from Ladies of Charity USA.
– Members have access to spirituality and reflections through the Ladies of Charity USA website.
– Members may attend membership meetings during the year.
– Volunteer at our thrift shop. Membership is not a requirement to be able to volunteer at our shop.
We accept membership applications yearly from September 1 – December 31.
